Tikkutehdas tram stop — Santalahti · Tikkutehdas

Tikkutehdas — literally “match factory” — recalls Tampere’s industrial history in its very name, as a match factory once operated here on the shore of Näsijärvi. The old factory buildings and their surroundings tell of the city’s past, when the power of the lake and the rapids drove the factories and employed thousands.

Today the area is part of a regenerating western shoreline, where the old industrial setting meets new residential building. The shore of Näsijärvi offers beautiful views and opportunities for outdoor recreation, and the Santalahti direction continues on from here toward the shore parks and the beach.

Line 1 links Tikkutehdas smoothly to the centre and the west. The stop serves both local residents and outdoor enthusiasts heading for the lakeside trails or toward the developing districts of Santalahti and Hiedanranta.
