Pyynikintori is a lively square that serves as the gateway to the Pyynikki ridge. From the square, paths and stairs climb toward the summit of Finland’s highest gravel esker, crowned by the Pyynikki observation tower. The tower’s café is famous for its doughnuts, which many travel a long way just to taste.
The square itself is an atmospheric district centre, ringed by cafés, restaurants and grocery shops. Pyynikintori hosts market days and events, and the square links the distinctive districts of the centre and hilly Pispala. From the ridge, Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi come into view in opposite directions.
Line 1 makes Pyynikintori easy to reach from both the centre and the west. The stop is a natural place to start a walk into the ridge’s coniferous forest or to head for the Pispala stairs and their famous lake views.
