Kalevan kirkko tram stop — Kaleva · Kalevan kirkko

Kalevan kirkko is the undisputed landmark of this stop: a modernist masterpiece designed by Reima and Raili Pietilä and completed in 1966, nicknamed the “grain silo” for its tall concrete walls. The church is a place of pilgrimage for lovers of architecture and one of Tampere’s best-known buildings.

The interior is every bit as striking as the exterior: the high, curving walls channel light through narrow windows to create a unique atmosphere. The building serves as a setting for services as well as concerts and events, and it draws visitors from around the world.

The stop is in the Kaleva district and is a handy starting point for local residents too. From here the tram continues quickly to the central trunk line, where the change to line 3 happens seamlessly on the same 90-minute ticket.
