Nysse is moving to account-based payment
During 2026 Nysse is moving to an account-based payment system, in which ticket data moves off the physical travel card into a background system. The change happens automatically and needs no action from the passenger — your old card keeps working through the transition. At the same time fares rose slightly at the start of 2026 when VAT went up to 13.5%. The tram still runs in zones A and B, so a journey costs the price of an AB ticket.
The Tampere tram network in brief
The Tampere tram began service on 9 August 2021 and is Finland’s second urban tramway. Today the network consists of two lines — lines 1 and 3 — and 33 stops. Services are operated by Tampereen Ratikka Oy, while tickets and timetables are the responsibility of Tampere regional public transport (Nysse).
Line 1 runs east to west from Kaupin kampus through the city centre to Lentävänniemi, and line 3 from Sorin aukio in the centre via Hakametsä and Hervanta to Hervantajärvi. The rails are laid to the standard 1435 mm (standard gauge) and the overhead line carries 750 V DC. The fleet consists of Škoda Artic X34 trams.
In the city centre lines 1 and 3 share the same central trunk track for four stops (Sammonaukio, Tulli, Rautatieasema and Koskipuisto). Trams call at these stops very frequently, and with the same 90-minute ticket you can change from one line to the other at no extra charge. The tram carries over 20 million journeys a year.

All stops by line
Tickets and fares
The tram is part of Nysse’s single ticketing system: the same ticket is valid on the tram and the bus. The tram runs entirely within zones A and B, so your ticket is always an AB ticket, and a single ticket is valid for 90 min — transfers included.
When the trams run
First trams 05:00
The first departures from the termini are on weekdays at about 05:00–05:45; at weekends service starts a little later.
Last trams 00:30
The last departures are at about 00:00–00:30 depending on the line and direction.
At peak 6–7 min
On the shared central trunk the two lines together bring a tram to the stop about every 3–4 minutes.
Night tram on Friday and Saturday nights
On other nights the tram does not run — night travel is covered by night buses, taxis and ride-hailing apps.
Frequently asked questions about the Tampere tram

An AB single ticket costs €2.50 on a travel card and €2.80 by mobile or contactless. The ticket is valid 90 min, transfers included. A day ticket costs €8.00.
The tram runs from about 05:00 to 00:30. The first departures are on weekdays at about 05:00–05:45 and the last at about 00:00–00:30.
A night tram runs on Friday and Saturday nights. On other nights the tram does not operate; travel is covered by night buses and taxis.
Yes. You can pay for an AB single ticket by tapping a contactless card or phone on the reader in the vehicle, or buy the ticket in the Nysse Mobiili app. There is no conductor on the tram.
